Montessori Upper Elementary Assistant - 9 to 12

When accepting a position with Bellevue Montessori School, Activity Club Program, Assistant agrees to aid the teachers in working toward these goals, and to collaborate with the staff in providing a nurturing environment.  The Assistant facilitates the comprehensive development of all students by interacting positively, confidently and respectfully with all children, families and staff members.  


Job Summary:

We are looking for a positive individual who will support providing an academically rich, engaging and respectful environment which meets the needs of each individual student and adheres to authentic Montessori practices and pedagogy (see full description below).

Title: Elementary Classroom Assistant

Start Date: August 3rd, 2026 to prepare for school year 2026-27

Schedule:  Mondays to Fridays - 9:30AM to 6:00PM

Reports to: Elementary Program Director / Elementary Lead Teacher

Program Ages: 9 to 12 (Upper Elementary)

Hourly Rate: Start at $22.50 to $24 per hour (depending on experience)

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Ability to relate to and inspire students on their independent educational journey.

  • Required experience working with an Elementary age group of children from ages 6 and up in a group or classroom setting. 

  • Evidence of emotional maturity, stability, and professionalism.

  • Team player

  • Reliable, punctual, and proactive

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Must have understanding of Montessori pedagogy

  • Ability to work well in a group of dedicated Montessori Elementary educators.

  • Strong personal communication and written communication skills.

  • Technical skills that support recordkeeping (Google, Transparent Classroom).

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, and at least 18 years of age. 

  • Willingness to complete state requirements: Infant/Child First Aid & CPR Training, MMR immunization, TB Test, Background Check & Fingerprinting, Food Handler’s Permit, and school-age education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in establishing a normalized Montessori prepared environment that meets the unique needs of the Upper Elementary students.

  • Support two Lower elementary classrooms by covering for breaks, lunches, and absences for teaching classroom staff if needed.

  • Oversee the students during class time offering support when needed and checking on work records, progress, and checking off completed assignments.

  • Occasional support in the RC Early Childhood/Kindergarten classrooms and other areas due to absences or required if needed.

  • Initiate and prepare materials and other needs necessary for the classroom in accordance with traditional Montessori philosophy.

  • Attend all school meetings and school related functions.

  • Establish and maintain good communications with parents during drop off and pick-up

  • Collaborate effectively with other staff members including Head Teachers, our Learning Specialist and our Elementary Educational Lead and Elementary Coordinator.

  • Clean, sanitize, and organize classroom materials are required by DCYF licensing

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset for professional and personal growth.

  • Initial reimbursement of up to $100 to complete DCYF licensing - CPR/FA, Bloodborne Pathogen, Food Handlers Permit, TB Skin Test, and MMR.

Per our DCYF (Department of Children, Youth and Families) regulations regarding educators, we require that all employees complete a PBC (portable background check), fingerprinting, WA State Food Handler’s Permit, proof of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunization and proof of a negative Tuberculosis skin test. If not yet completed, our team will gladly help walk you through these necessary steps.
